Many conservative talk shows trot out scientists that claim that Global warming is not caused by human activity, as if one scientist could somehow will nature to obey the conservative agenda. You can find scientists that support all kinds of ideas such as: the earth being hollow, that we never landed on the moon, that the US government has alien technology, and finally intelligent design.

The problem with most people is that they have trouble separating politics/religion from objective critical thinking. Their political agenda permeates what type of evidence they will and will not consider, what they consider rational and irrational, and finally what they do and don't consider moral. Nature is going to force the issue anyway, we are past the peak of oil production, eventually we will either have to find an alternative to gasoline and coal or we will not be able to sustain our current quality of life.

Consider this let us weigh the pro and cons of action with regard to global warming.

Let us say we take action to reduce global warming and we are wrong. Billions of dollars spent to reduce carbon emissions and we have and alternate fuel sources. Even though we may have misspent some of the money, we no longer rely on the middle east for oil, we no longer have to worry about peak oil, our economy will continue to grow but this time without worrying about running out of oil or eternal war with the middle east. Eventually we will make up for all the money lost and our environment will be cleaner.

Let us say we take action and we are right, then in this case not only do we save the world for our present generation but for our kids and their kids.
